Birkirkara Tennis Club was founded in 1986. Because of lack
of any facility in Birkirkara we rehabilitated an abandoned
and overgrown ex- services court in Pembroke. It has always
been the intention of the Club to try and identify an
adequate site in Birkirkara on which to build proper
facilities.
In July 2000, Parliament, unanimously approved the lease to
our Club, of a tract of land next to Birkirkara by-pass.
Immediately we started the designs and submitted
applications to MEPA.
On the 21st of April 2005, after five years of continuous
effort, commissioning, and presenting of reports, the
application was approved and work commenced.
The project, which will be completely accessible to persons
with disabilities, will consist of three tennis courts
complete with floodlighting. Number one court will have
seating for spectators. The Clubhouse will consist of
changing rooms complete with showers and toilets, fitness
facilities, snack bar and administration rooms. The parking
area will accommodate 22 cars. The remaining land will be
landscaped to achieve pleasant surroundings.
The aim of the Birkirkara Tennis Club is to offer the
members a venue built to international standards. |
